Susan G. Komen for the Cure is excited to announce four new breast cancer research funding opportunities and a new system for grant application and review. Under the direction of Komen’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Eric Winer and the Komen Scientific Advisory Board these new research grant awards focus on bringing recent laboratory advances to the clinic and will be instrumental in developing new treatments, all with the goal of decreasing the number of deaths from breast cancer and ultimately preventing the disease. Funding levels and salary caps have been increased for all award types and applicants are not required to be United States citizens. Komen’s new application and review procedures include a significantly streamlined process, clearer application guidance, new application requirements and proposal sections, new review criteria, and new online application and review systems that simplify and automate application and review processes. Requests for Applications will be available by Tuesday, August 28 at www.komen.org in the Grants Program tab.
Promise Grants provide up to $1.5M annually over five years for integrated research programs that bring together laboratory and clinical investigators from different disciplines to work together to address issues that have the potential to reduce breast cancer mortality. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than October 23, 2007 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due December 4, 2007 8:00pm eastern time.
Investigator Initiated Research Grants provide up to $600,000 over three years to stimulate exploration of new ideas and novel approaches in breast cancer research and clinical practice that will lead to reductions in breast cancer incidence and/or mortality within the next decade. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than October 9, 2007 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due November 8, 2007 8:00pm eastern time.
Career Catalyst Research Grants provide critical opportunities for scientists in the early stages of their career to achieve research independence with an independent award of up to $450,000 over three years. CCR investigators lead a research project addressing an important question in breast cancer research and complete a self-defined career development plan with support from a mentor committee. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than October 9, 2007 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due November 8, 2007 8:00pm eastern time.
Postdoctoral Fellowships seek to attract pre-faculty scientists into breast cancer by providing up to $60,000 annually over three years. Fellows can apply for grants in one of two research tracks, basic and translational research leading to reductions in breast cancer incidence and/or mortality. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than October 4, 2007 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due October 16, 2007 8:00pm eastern time.
