SBIR/STTR hints and assistance

Posted in Health and Science on September 26, 2007 by landdgrantblog

In FY 2007-2008 the federal government will award in excess of $3 billion dollars in SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) program grants to approximately 4,000 small businesses.

Reported on the SBA’S web site, the purpose of the SBIR and STTR initiatives is to provide “qualified small business concerns with opportunities to propose innovative ideas that meet the specific research and development needs of the federal government.”

Federal agencies must allocate 2% of their budgets to these programs. Because both initiatives have been well publicized and have been around for approximately twenty years, winning a SBIR or STTR award is very difficult and the competition intense.

Many entrepreneurs and small businesses will spend too many valuable hours responding to an announcement and be turned down because they did not have the right strategies in place to be competitive.

L&D Associates is in a position to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs as they attempt to secure SBIR and STTR awards.

National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices Adds Information on Former Model Programs Initiative to Web Site

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is expanding its National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) Web site by providing information from the agency’s Model Programs Initiative.

NREPP is a searchable online registry of mental health and substance abuse interventions that have been reviewed and rated by independent experts. The registry assists local organizations in identifying interventions that have been scientifically tested and can be readily disseminated to the field. Organizations can search for interventions that fit the needs of their communities.
