New Resource Available on Detoxification

Based on TIP 45The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is pleased to announce the availability of the Detoxification and Substance Abuse Treatment Training Manual. This new curriculum, based on Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 45, is for use by clinical supervisors for training staff members about detoxification services for individuals with substance use disorders. The manual includes information on the physiology of withdrawal, pharmacological management of withdrawal, patient placement, and incorporating detoxification services into comprehensive systems of care. It includes step-by-step instructions for providing inservice training.

Stimulus Plan Would Provide Flood of Aid to Education

WASHINGTON — The economic stimulus plan that Congress has scheduled for a vote on Wednesday would shower the nation’s school districts, child care centers and university campuses with $150 billion in new federal spending, a vast two-year investment that would more than double the Department of Education’s current budget.

Assertive Community Treatment Evidence-Based Practice KITThe Center for Mental Health Services announces the updated version of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Toolkit. This toolkit highlights services that are provided to those living with serious mental illness in an effort to maintain more stability and guide their transitions back into the community. These services are provided to help with family life, employment, housing, medication, and day-to-day activities, among others.

New Resource Available on Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction

Based on TIP 43The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is pleased to announce the availability of Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction in Opioid Treatment Programs Inservice Training, a new training manual based on Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 43. This new manual provides detailed training information aimed at introducing substance abuse treatment professionals to medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction in opioid treatment programs. The manual describes opioid use disorders; provides assessment, treatment planning, pharmacology, and dosing information; and presents evidence-based best practices for treatment.
